I have had the pleasure of working with the Florida Ground Water Association (FGWA) since 2012. I started off as their Program Manager and just a few short years later, became the Executive Director. This association was formed and chartered in 1935 by a group of well drilling contractors who wanted to further the principles of the industry and protect Florida’s water resources. FGWA officially became a 501(c)(6) not for profit organization in 1979 and has been managed by Partners in Association Management since 2006. The Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors (EBPHI), a 501(c)(6) not for profit organization, is one of Partners’ newer clients, joining us in September, 2016. EBPHI will always be extra special to me as they were the first organization I would serve in the role as Executive Director.
EBPHI is not a traditional association. They are governed by a 13-member volunteer board of directors, they have no membership, and they do not hold conferences or offer continuing education. My husband and I enjoy watching Good Bones on HGTV. We originally started watching because it takes place in my husband’s hometown of Indianapolis, but it’s refreshing because the mother-daughter team of Karen and Mina are candid about the hard work required to renovate homes. Even though they are the stars of the show, the entire team who helps make the renovation(s) possible is shown throughout each episode. Even Mina’s favorite catch phrase is “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work”.

Social Media platforms are the quickest and easiest way for people searching for employment to get a sneak peek of what your company is about. With this new wave of technology and the convenience of doing everyday tasks online from the comfort of your home, it is extremely important for companies to make an impression through their social media platforms.
As a millennial, I understand what our generation is looking for in terms of content, design, and overall attractiveness within a company website. Roughly 88% of 18-29 year olds use some kind of social media platform. This number shouldn’t be surprising to most, but this presents a challenge because this demographic is constantly using social media to inform them of the world around them. Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past decade you’ve probably read about, heard about, and seen entirely too many PowerPoint presentations about organizational culture. The articles, books and discussions focus on both corporate culture as well as the culture in not for profit (NFP) organizations. One might argue that in the NFP community, culture plays an even more important role due to the passion and “all-in” commitment of those associated with promoting their chosen industry or cause.
Partners takes culture very seriously — both ours as “the Partners team” and the way that culture integrates with the cultures of the organizations we serve. I am not a trendsetter. I am not even a trend follower. I’ve been known to quit listening to bands once they become popular and although it’s 2018, I still haven’t gotten over my fear of Facebook. There is one trend, however, that has completely captivated me: mindfulness through meditation. I understand that the vast majority of our readers are Type A meeting planners, executives and generally speaking, people that might not picture themselves taking a 10-minute break in the busy association world to seek their Zen.
